Fantasy Cards now have it’s own twitter account @fantasy_cards .

Starting from now, I will separate tweets concerning the game from my private and more development oriented tweets. All game announcements go through @fantasy_cards. If you are interested in news concerning the game you should follow this account. If you are also interested in “behind the scenes” stuff and my private mocking you could consider also following @marcoemrich :)

To make it easy for you, I also added a follow button directly below the new section on the start/home page .

Hi Everyone,

it has been several month since the last upgrade. Don’t despair! Fantasy Cards is far from being DEAD.

I just released a new version. There are several improvements:

New Award System

I totally revamped the award system. You now get notified in the very moment you get an award – previously it was only after the game.

Several Awards have been dropped and some new added. The best feature is the possibility for story based awards. Let the bear escape in the Level Wild Animals and you will see…

New Level ‘Home at the Castle’

Home at the Castle replaces the old Resource Tutorial. It’s more interesting and better integrated in the tutorial story.

Better Performance

Most changes I did, are not visible from the outside. But I changed quite some code. Did a lot of modernization. And the best thing is: improved performance.

If you have already cached the game client (i.e. it’s your 2nd play), game start is now almost instantaneous.

Bug Fixes

Like always, I squashed some of these nasty creatures. Most importantly, in two player games you start with the correct hand cards.

I’m sure it works. But I have a hard time finding someone who likes to duel too :(. I think the problem is, that most players are already playing vs. the ai most of the time. So they dont see the request.

are you sure multiplayer works? i mean, i try a lot of time to have a duel with someone else and no answer, not one in, perhaps, 15-20 request.

Until I read this post I didn’t realize that you were supposed to kill the bear. I just moved to the left and it ran right on by.

Hmm – What about raising the attack value of the wolves from 2 to 3? This would really raise the need for the potions. But would it make the level to hard for beginners?

I think there should be a need to use the potion. But it may be enough to have just some damage. So you need to use the healing potions to get back to full health. Some damage is enough to see the effect of potions and get familiar with the mechanics – like Humility said. A real need for the potions that would prevent the player from making it through the level would be too hard for a tutorial.

So there is only a problem, if some players doesn’t get damaged at all.

And I noticed I did need them, or at least 1. Because I have internet lag, when I click it takes a second for the game to respond. And that made it so I did need the potions.

Great idea.

No I think it is ok like this. However, the health potions are not necessary at this point.

Do you mean, you haven’t been hit at all? Or just that the damage is low enough, that you don’t need them?

It would be nice if somehow you could be damaged (by a spell of the opponent) to for example 1 life, and you had to use it, to be able to end this part.

Thanks for your feedback Furon. Since it is a tutorial it should be fairly easy. So from what you say – it seems to me, that it has the right difficulty for beginners. Is there anything, you think I should change?

I found it challenging enough that if you made a few mistakes to many you would fail, but not hard enough to be called a true challenge.
I noticed you halved the wolfs attack, mainly to make it easier on rookies i guess. it is not entirely necessary for player who know how to fight the ai, I only took one attack from the wolves.
The bear looks harder than it is, considering it will only land 2 hits on a pro, and perhaps 3 on a rookie, which heal potions can more than cover for.

To help new players finding an easier way into the game – we will expand the tutorial. Furon suggested a real campaign with a small storyline here . And this is – what I’m started to implement.

There is already a level called Wild Animals which continues the story after Lost (called just Movement Tutorial before). More levels will come soon … teaching additional aspects of the game.

I think this is really important, since there are still many newcomers that play the first tutorial and then leave – because they are overwhelmed by the game rules. Introducing the rules one by one should help.

If your are seasoned player, I still would like you to try the new level! Besides form earning yourself 10 Points :) you could provide us valuable feedback, I would really appreciate.

Since we had some crashes in multiplayer games, I did various bug fixes lately. There are still some bugs left, but at least they will not completely crash the game any more. This should make those duels much more fun now :)

Hurray – at last!

Welcome the new multi-player system. The old system with “ready_to_play”-state is gone. No more stupid out- and back-in-logging to unfreeze your state.

How It works
You can now send challenges to other players. Click on the propose duel-Button below the player name. The player will receive your challenge. He has 90 seconds to accept or reject. After an accept the game starts for both players automatically. I hope this is much more user friendly than the old system.

Known Bug
The one glitch remaining is, that you have to wait for several seconds after pressing accept. It takes some time producing the game startup on the server. And there is no loading-notice yet, so you have to be a little patient.
